Professional Vegetation Managers Association Certification (PVMA) -formerly IVMAA
The PVMA's mission is to provide vegetation management industries, related agencies and the public with communication and educational opportunities in the area of industrial vegetation management.
STEPS REQUIRED to Apply for Certification as a Utility Tree Worker or Utility Tree Trimmer in Alberta:
1. PRIOR to taking the 2 week Certification Course at Olds College- Officially log six (6) months of related work experience in tree and brush work around power lines.
2. Successful completion of the Utility Tree Worker/Utility Tree Trimmer Safety Training Course at Olds College.
3. After completing the required number of supervised work experience hours, make application to the PVMA for certification:
Utility Tree Worker Certificate: 1200 hours experience, documented in a PVMA Log Book, performing tree work near energized power lines under the supervision of a certified Utility Tree Worker or certified Utility Tree Trimmer.
Utility Tree Trimmer Certificate: 1200 hours experience, documented in a PVMA Log Book, performing tree work near energized power lines under the supervision of a certified Utility Tree Worker or certified Utility Tree Trimmer, including 600 hours of aerial trimming near energized power lines under the supervision of a certified Utility Tree Trimmer.
