This course focuses on the integration of knowledge and skills learned during the first semester of the Equine Certificate Program in lab and real-life settings. Students will demonstrate an understanding of biomechanics specific to disciplines in the massaging of horses. Students will massage live horses applying theory of massage including modalities, strokes, techniques, and routines. In a lab setting, within the scope of practice, students will assess a horse to identify areas of conformation, contraindications, soreness, tightness, asymmetry or muscle fatigue. Students will demonstrate behaviors which promote and ensure safety and comfort of the horse that is receiving basic massage techniques.
